What is Net House Farming?
A net house — also called a shade net house or nethouse — is a galvanised (GI) pipe frame covered with UV-stabilised shade net on the roof and 40/50-mesh insect net on the sides. It cuts harsh sun and heat, keeps out most insects, and protects plants from wind and hail — so your crop grows healthier and gives a much higher yield than open-field farming.
It costs far less than a polyhouse and is simple to run, which makes it the best first step into protected farming for most vegetable growers.
With drip irrigation and a two-crop yearly plan — cucumber in summer, then tomato or capsicum in winter — the same land earns through most of the year.
Is a Net House Right for You?
One Net House, Two Crops a Year
A quick cucumber crop in summer brings early cash, then a longer winter crop of tomato or capsicum brings the bigger income — two harvests from the same structure.
What a Net House Costs — and Earns
Illustrative figures from Agrifirst's net house calculator for the cucumber → tomato + capsicum plan, on the full project cost — no subsidy assumed. Actual results vary by crop, location, market price and management, and are not guaranteed.
| Net House Size | Project Cost | Revenue / Year | Profit / Year | Payback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Acre · 4,000 m² | ₹24.9 L | ₹17.3 L | ₹10.8 L | ~2.3 yrs |
| 2 Acres · 8,000 m² | ₹49.8 L | ₹34.5 L | ₹21.6 L | ~2.3 yrs |
| 3 Acres · 12,000 m² | ₹74.7 L | ₹51.8 L | ₹32.4 L | ~2.3 yrs |
Project cost covers the shade-net GI structure with drip (about ₹450/m²), plus civil work, accessories, weed mat and miscellaneous items. Revenue and profit are yearly, after running costs (seedlings, fertiliser, labour) and before any loan repayment. Payback = project cost ÷ yearly profit.
Net House Price per m² and per sq ft
Indicative prices, updated October 2026, for a flat-roof shade net house with 35–75% shade net, 40/50-mesh insect side net, GI frame and drip. Final price depends on your state, site, height and net choice.
Why Farmers Are Moving to Net Houses
Open Field
Net House
| Parameter | Open Field | Net House |
|---|---|---|
| Crops per Year | 1–2, weather-dependent | 2 planned crops (summer + winter) |
| Crop Loss Risk | High — heat, rain, hail, insects | Much lower — protected by shade net |
| Water Use | Flood irrigation | 40–60% less with drip + fertigation |
| Yield per Acre | Baseline | 3–4× higher |
| Pesticide Sprays | Frequent | Fewer — net keeps most insects out |
| Produce Quality | Mixed, more rejects | Uniform, better grade and price |
| Payback | — | ~2.3 years on full cost* |
| Expert Support | On your own | Agronomist guidance, planting to harvest |
| Tax on Income | Agricultural — exempt | Agricultural — exempt (Sec 10(1)) |
Best Crops for a Net House
The tested plan is two crops a year: cucumber in summer (about 90 days), then tomato, capsicum or bell pepper in winter (6–7 months).
Your Net House, Without the Subsidy Wait
Subsidy approvals can take many months and the rules keep changing — and a season lost waiting is income lost. With a Cash & Carry project you fund the net house yourself or through your bank, and we start building as soon as you're ready.
Full project cost, and the illustrative yearly profit from a cucumber + tomato/capsicum plan — about 2.3 years to recover the full cost, with no subsidy assumed. Actual results vary and are not guaranteed.
